You’ve probably heard that Medicare beneficiaries will be receiving a new Medicare card. To help protect your identity, your Medicare care number will no longer be your Social Security number. Instead, it will be a unique number to be used for your Medicare coverage. Your benefits will not change. Your new card should be mailed between April 2018 and April 2019- so yours could take some time to get to you.
Medicare.gov recommends the following:
-Keep your mailing address up to date. Contact Social Security at ssa.gov/myaccount or 1-800-772-1313 to make changes
-Medicare will never ask you to give private information to get your new card and Medicare number, so beware if you are contacted by anyone looking for that information
-The replacement process will take some time, so don’t be alarmed if your neighbor receives their new card before you do. Keep using your current card and number until you your new card comes in the mail.
